Aris celebrated a great 98-74 victory over Red Star, putting on an outstanding performance against a EuroLeague-level opponent, as part of the “Neophytos Chandriotis” tournament being held in Nicosia, Cyprus!
The “yellow-and-blacks” dominated from the start of the game and completely dictated the pace. By the end of the first quarter, they had built a significant lead, which they not only maintained but even extended to as many as 20 points. Red Star tried to fight back, but Aris remained firmly in control of the game and did not allow the Serbs to truly get back into it.
Vassilis Spanoulis’s team displayed versatility on offense, with Jeremiah Robinson-Erl putting on an outstanding performance and finishing the game with 29 points, while Matt Morgan also made a significant contribution, adding 18 points. Overall, Aris shot 56% from the field and scored 56 points in the paint, demonstrating their dominance near the basket.
The only downside of the night involved Nenad Dimitrijević, whose condition is a cause for concern within the team.
Early in the third quarter, the 28-year-old guard injured his left hand after a collision with Jonathan Motley, as the latter attempted to set a screen. The incident caused tension on the court and nearly led to a full-scale brawl between players from both teams.
Dimitrijevic left for the locker room, visibly affected by pain in his arm, and his condition is expected to be evaluated by Aris’s medical staff. The Thessaloniki team, however, maintained complete control until the very end and emphatically sealed one of its most important victories.
Quarter scores: 34-18, 51-40, 73-57, 98-74.
