Through informational events and practical demonstrations in Nicosia and Larnaca, the Cyprus Red Cross (C.R.C.) marked World First Aid Day on Saturday, September 12.
The events took place at the Nicosia Mall and the Metropolis Mall, giving members of the public the opportunity to learn basic first aid techniques hands-on and to learn about the importance of responding correctly in an emergency.
Instructors from the Cyprus Red Cross conducted practical demonstrations of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), while the public had the opportunity to participate and become familiar with skills that can prove critical in the first few minutes of an emergency.
The event also served as an opportunity for the Cyprus Red Cross to highlight the importance of systematic first aid training. The Cyprus Red Cross offers first aid programs through which citizens can acquire the necessary knowledge and practical skills to respond correctly and safely when needed.
In her remarks, the President of the Cyprus Red Cross, Ms. Fotini Papadopoulou, stated: “First aid is, above all, an act of humanity. It means being able, when a fellow human being needs you, to stand by their side and know how to help properly. That is why at the Cyprus Red Cross we place special emphasis on education, and through the First Aid programs we offer, we want this knowledge to reach as many of our fellow citizens as possible. We want to foster a true culture of first aid in Cyprus, with more people trained and ready to offer their help correctly and calmly.”
