To mark the start of the new school year, the President of the Republic—accompanied by the Minister of Education—visited schools in the capital this morning. He began at Agios Dometios Junior High School, where he was greeted with a musical welcome.
The program included a tour of the school grounds and a discussion with the students. Nikos Christodoulides found a unique way to connect with them and listen to their concerns.
He spoke with teachers and sat at the desks for a while…
Education is a top priority, stated the President of the Republic.
“Whatever decision we make regarding education, we do not view it as a budget expense; we view it as an investment.”

The next stop was the Konstantinoupolis Elementary School.
Nikos Christodoulides visited all the classrooms, starting with the first-graders.
The final stop was the School for the Deaf. The President announced the allocation of 10,000 euros to cover the educational institution’s emergency needs, while he also announced that work on the former boarding school would begin in January.
“This situation here does no one any credit.”

The President then had the opportunity to meet the children. It was then his turn to answer questions.
Even before the new school year has truly begun, there is already unrest, with the PSEM calling for a boycott of classes next Wednesday, during the session of the House Education Committee. The main reasons for the protest are air conditioning, school facilities, and school uniforms.
