Aris appears to be close to signing John Sutar, despite the fact that the deal with the 29-year-old Rangers center back seemed to have fallen through.
At least, that’s what the website “Football FanCast” claims, , reporting that the Scots are close to reaching an agreement with Sutar for him to become a free agent and come to Thessaloniki to strengthen the defensive line of Michalis Grigoriou’s team.
“With just 24 hours left until the transfer window closes in Greece, it looked as though Soutar would miss his chance to sign with the Greek club Aris Thessaloniki. He asked Rangers to pay him the money owed for the final year of his contract, and, although the club had always been willing to let him go as long as a compromise could be reached, his request was rejected and the deal was on the verge of falling apart.
However, according to sources at Football FanCast, a deal is now close to being finalized to terminate the remainder of Sutar’s contract and transfer him to Aris, in a last-minute turnaround of the situation,” the Scottish website reports, adding:
“The transfer could now be finalized within the next 24 hours, before the transfer window closes in Greece at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday. It would be a relief for all parties if Souttar managed to leave Rangers, and it appears that time pressure has accelerated developments.
The defender now appears to be nearing the end of his time at Rangers, having made more than 100 appearances and won one Scottish League Cup.
