Ilias Kasis has been out of Domokos Prison since noon on Tuesday, after serving his sentence following his conviction for participation in the Golden Dawn criminal organization..
Ilias Kasidiaris, who walked out of prison holding a Greek flag, was met by dozens of his supporters, into whose arms he threw himself as he stepped through the prison gates.
In a statement following his release, Ilias Kasidiaris announced his return to politics, saying: “I had promised you that as soon as I walked through this gate, I would not only return to freedom but also to the front lines of the national struggle.”
“I am returning, and I am not alone; I am joined by a strong nationalist party, like those that dominate throughout Europe. My goal is to rid the country of the most corrupt government since the restoration of democracy,” he continued.
As he said, “I see politicians on television whining and conspiring that they mustn’t let me return to Parliament. In a democracy, however, there is only one judge: the sovereign people—you, the thinking Greek citizens.”
