On Tuesday night (September 15), James Rodríguez brought a long and illustrious career with the national team to a close!
The 35-year-old attacking midfielder, who just a few days ago signed a contract with Atlético Nacional and returned to his home country’s league after 18 years (!), has announced his decision to retire from the Colombian national team.
The veteran star, who also played here for Olympiacos, posted a moving video in which, with tears in his eyes, he informed fans of his decision not to wear the “Cafeteros” jersey again.
From 2011, when he first played for Colombia’s men’s national team, until today, James has played in 131 games and scored 31 goals, making him the country’s all-time leading scorer. In fact, he served as the team’s captain for years, most recently leading them to the World Cup in North America.
The time has come.
Thank you for every match, every moment of joy, every tear, and every shared dream.
