The strike by hourly-wage public-sector employees scheduled for Thursday, September 17, has been called off.
According to a post by government spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis, “following today’s meeting of the labor unions OEKDY-SEK, PASYEK, PEO, DEE-KDOKO, and DEOK, with President Christodoulides, in the presence of the Minister of Finance, it was agreed, in light of the positive response to all requests regarding hourly-wage government employees, that a special meeting with the President of the Republic would be held on September 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.”
As it adds, among the topics of discussion will be ways to improve the wages of hourly-paid government employees.
Consequently, the labor unions decided to suspend the measures to allow time for dialogue and the making of final decisions.
