AEL is asking the Cyprus Football Association (KOP) to… put the proceedings regarding Kafou on hold until the situation with VAR is fully clarified.
The case involving the Portuguese midfielder is currently before the newly formed Judicial Committee, however, the “blue-and-yellows” consider it essential that their own complaint regarding how VAR handled the red-card incident be examined first.
AEL wants to obtain all the audiovisual footage from the VAR van in order to determine exactly what happened before the final decision was made. The delay in VAR intervention—several minutes after the incident in question and while play had resumed—is one of the points they wish to examine.
For this reason, the Limassol-based team has requested that the footage be preserved and that it be given the opportunity to review it together with the relevant officials of the Cyprus Football Association (CFA). At the same time, the club is awaiting notification regarding which specific body will be responsible for investigating its complaint.
Kafou has been accused of spitting at an opponent, an offense that could result in a significant penalty. Attention is now focused on the CFF’s response and whether AEL’s request to wait until the VAR issue is addressed will be granted.
