The situation is considered under control, and efforts are underway to fully contain the fire, despite the difficulties posed by darkness and the rugged terrain of the area, according to the latest update from the Forestry Department regarding the fire that broke out early Wednesday evening in the Drousia area of the Paphos district.
Crews will remain on site throughout the night to monitor the situation and immediately respond to any flare-ups.
The fire, it should be noted, was detected at 7:40 p.m. by a Forestry Department observation post in a remote ravine in the “Monasteria” area of the Drousia community.
Forest Department personnel were immediately mobilized. Foot patrols, using water hoses, are attempting to reach the fire’s front line. The Fire Department was called in to provide additional support.
Two fire trucks from the Forestry Department with eight crew members and two fire trucks from the Fire Department with four crew members were deployed to the scene.
