The Levante–Athletic Bilbao match was ultimately canceled, as heavy rainfall in Valencia made it impossible to play the game at “Ciutat de Valencia”.
The rain began shortly after the players took the field to warm up, and within minutes the situation deteriorated dramatically. The field was flooded, and problems even arose inside the stadium, with power outages and the tunnel connecting the locker rooms to the field becoming virtually impassable.
At the same time, the press area was also flooded, and conditions at the stadium made it impossible to start the match. Referee Quintero González ultimately decided to postpone the match, a decision accepted by both teams.
Valencia was under an orange alert for heavy rainfall, with local authorities having already taken measures and canceled outdoor activities. Weather forecasts predicted rainfall that could reach 40 liters per square meter, while radar continued to show severe weather conditions.
Now, La Liga and the two clubs will have to agree on a new date for the match. The fact that Athletic plays again on Saturday and Levante on Sunday limits the available options, with the match likely to be scheduled on a date that coincides with European competitions, as neither team is participating in them.
