The two doctors accused of causing the death of Giorgos Mazonakis will be held in a suitable facility that ensures the security and smooth operation of the prison, as well as the integrity of the facility itself.
According to information from the General Secretariat for Anti-Crime Policy, the woman will be held alone in a cell in the women’s wing of the Korydallos Correctional Facility, and the man in a corresponding cell in the men’s wing.
This area is remote and not easily accessible to other inmates.
The decision to remand them in custody was made following their statements, with the consent of the investigating judge and the prosecutor, as it was reportedly determined that they must remain in custody until their trial.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Giorgos Mazonakis is taking a new turn following the remand of the two doctors.
The 32nd regular investigating judge, Paraskevas Laskaridis, will focus on taking statements from individuals with whom the defendants communicated during the singer’s visit to theclinic on Karneadou Street.
For their part, the two doctors, who were remanded in custody following their marathon statements totaling 17 hours, immediately filed an appeal against the pretrial detention warrants, requesting their release. As announced by their attorney, Nikos Agapinos, the appeals will be reviewed shortly by the competent judicial council. He notes that the upgrade of the charges is completely unjustified and believes that his clients’ procedural rights have been grossly violated.
The Hypnotherapist’s Testimony
One of the most crucial testimonies at this stage of the preliminary investigation is that of hypnotherapist Nasos Komianos. He is the recipient of one of the two photographs taken by the 56-year-old doctor, which show George Mazonakis during plasmapheresis treatment, lying on a hospital bed with an IV catheter, his eyes closed and his head turned to the right, while the medical machine is in operation.
This photograph, as shown by the analysis of digital data conducted by the police, was sent from the doctor’s cell phone at 2:45 p.m. to the sleep therapist, although the investigation has not yet clarified Mr. G. Mazonakis’s medical condition at that time.
The sleep therapist, in his statements, claims that he works with the doctor but that she did not send him the photo to ask for his advice. The hypnotherapist maintains that the doctor sent him the photo because Giorgos Mazonakis had an appointment with him immediately afterward. Mr. Komianos will be one of the first witnesses summoned by the investigating judge and will give his testimony next Monday.
