Giorgos Mazonakis wasn’t just a singer… Behind his dynamic stage presence, his major musical hits, his social life, and a public image often associated with provocation, there was a different side to the singer.
He was a man with a deep faith in Christ and a special relationship with the Orthodox Church.
Monk Bartholomew, who is affiliated with the Patriarchal Exarchate of Patmos and the Holy Monastery of St. John the Theologian. He spoke about his acquaintance with Giorgos Mazonakis, as well as the impression he gained from his character and personality.
They met in 2016, when the beloved singer was visiting Patmos during the summer months. Among the sites he visited were the Holy Cave of the Apocalypse and the Holy Monastery of St. John the Theologian. As the monk describes, Giorgos Mazonakis did not present himself there as a famous artist, but as a person who wished to draw closer to the Church and converse with monks and spiritual people.
