The Parliamentary Health Committee is scrutinizing the medical procedure of plasmapheresis, following recent public discussions and reports regarding its practice.
As stated by the Chair of the Health Committee, Savia Orfanidou, stated that the issue was taken up on the Committee’s own initiative, with the Committee focusing on the regulatory and supervisory framework governing this specific medical procedure.
According to Ms. Orfanidou, the discussion will address, among other things, the inspections that must be conducted at health centers and clinics licensed to perform plasmapheresis, as well as the licensing of healthcare professionals who perform these specific procedures.

The medical equipment used will also be a focus of the investigation, with the Commission conducting a comprehensive review of the requirements and oversight mechanisms.
The discussion is expected to begin in October, with the aim, as stated by the Commission Chair, of contributing to the ongoing process of mapping the centers where such procedures are performed, as well as to strengthen controls and inspections.
“On behalf of the entire Health Committee, we have taken up this issue,” said Ms. Orfanidou, emphasizing the Committee’s intention to contribute positively and constructively to the ongoing process.
