A full day of Europa League action with seven matches kicking off at 10:00 p.m., following OFI’s triumph over Hoffenheim.
Big wins for Besiktas, Bournemouth, and Torrense; Juventus crushed Nijmegen, Ferencváros pulled off a big away win over Celtic, and Crystal Palace and Union Saint-Gilloise secured comfortable victories.
Bournemouth’s Big Win at “Anoeta”
With two goals in the first 20 minutes, Bournemouth laid the groundwork for a big win at Real Sociedad’s home stadium. Klaifert opened the scoring for the “Cherries” following an assist from Truffer, and nine minutes later, Rayyan doubled his team’s lead with a header off a cross from Scott.
Real Sociedad gradually picked up the pace, became a threat, and pulled one back in the 58th minute with a goal by Gómez, who found the ball inside the box following a nice cross from Beitia.
Oyarzabal missed a huge chance to tie the game in the 73rd minute, with Petrovic off his line and the Spanish midfielder trying to chip him, but the ball ended up going over the crossbar.
The score remained 1–2 in favor of Bournemouth until the final whistle, and the “Cherries” kicked off their Europa League group stage campaign with a great victory.
Beşiktaş Crushed Marseille
In a match that didn’t seem to foreshadow such a result or such a clear-cut winner, Besiktas managed to completely dismantle Marseille, prevailing 4-1.
The Turkish… storm began in the 56th minute, when Besiktas took a 2-1 lead. Three minutes later, they extended their lead by two goals, and in the 81st minute, they put the icing on the cake.
European debut with an away win for Torrense
In the first game in its European history, Torrense defeated Lillestrøm 2-1 and made history!
The Portuguese second-division team took a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute, but the home team pressed and pulled one back in the 79th minute; however, they couldn’t manage more than that, as Olympiacos’ opponent in the final matchday of the Europa League group stage celebrated a major victory.
