The Fire Department and the Forestry Department were mobilized early Friday morning after a fire broke out at a recreation center in the Akamas area, amid intense lightning activity.
According to information available so far, the fire appears to have been caused by a lightning strike, resulting in extensive damage to the property. Fire Department crews from Paphos and Polis Chrysochous were mobilized to extinguish the fire, and the Forestry Department also assisted.

As reported on the Alpha Kalimera show with Kostas Nanos, the Paphos district experienced intense activity for more than an hour, with continuous thunder, flashes of lightning, and thunder, with the phenomena beginning around 1 a.m.
The severe weather was accompanied in some areas by heavy rainfall, and a tree was also reported to have fallen. Earlier, communities in the Akamas region had been plunged into darkness due to a power outage.
As of early this morning, this was the summary of the incidents that had been reported, though it cannot be ruled out that further damage from the severe overnight storm may be discovered later in the day.
