Kalamata will host Panathinaikos in Neapoli on Sunday (September 20), with the condition of the playing field being one of the key points of interest ahead of the match.
A… close look at the field during Kalamata’s recent match against AEL Novibet in the Superbet Greek Cup reveals a turf that has suffered significant wear and tear, appearing somewhat “dry” in some spots, though it doesn’t look like a “field.” In several spots, damage to the grass is evident, and there are unevennesses on the surface, mainly in the center but also in the outer sections of the field.

The situation is far from ideal just a few days before the match against Panathinaikos, as the Neapolis stadium is not in perfect condition. So far this season, the Messinia-based team has used the stadiums in Tripoli, Peristeri, and Nikaia as its home grounds. This is a temporary solution for Kalamata, as work is currently underway at the Paralia Municipal Stadium, and until it is completed, the team is required to seek alternative home venues.
At the same time, the match against Panathinaikos will be played without visiting fans in attendance. Kalamata has announced that it will not make tickets available to Panathinaikos fans, just as it did with AEL fans during the Cup match. PAE Kalamata clarified, however, that this decision is related exclusively to the terms of the agreement regarding the use of the Neapolis stadium and not to its general stance on the presence of fans from both teams in the stands.
