AEK’s major signing is now official!
AEK announced the signing of Thomas Ertel, completing one of the team’s biggest moves ahead of the new season.
Ertel signed a one-year contract, as stated in the announcement.

AEK BC is pleased to announce the start of its collaboration with Thomas Heurtel.
The French guard, who has many years of experience in top European leagues and the EuroLeague, joins the “Queen’s” roster.
Heurtel signed a one-year contract today (September 18), which runs through the summer of 2027.
BIOGRAPHY
Ertel was born on April 10, 1989, in Béziers, France; he is 1.89 m tall and plays point guard.
He began his professional career with Po-Orthez, where he played from 2007 to 2009. During the 2008–09 season, he was named the French League’s Rising Star.
In 2009, he moved to Strasbourg, and in 2010, he transferred to Alicante in Spain. He remained there until 2011, when he joined Baskonia.
With Baskonia, he made his EuroLeague debut and played until December 2014, when he was traded to Anadolu Efes.
He remained with the Turkish team until 2017, winning the Turkish Cup in 2015 and being named the tournament’s MVP. During the 2014–15 and 2015–16 seasons, he was the EuroLeague’s leading passer, averaging 6.4 and 7.9 assists, respectively.
In the summer of 2017, he signed with Barcelona and won two consecutive Copa del Rey titles, in 2018 and 2019, while also being named the tournament’s MVP in both victories.
In 2021, he returned to France to play for ASVEL, with whom he won the French League and the French Cup.
During the 2021–22 season, he played for Real Madrid, winning the Spanish League title.
This was followed by a stint with Zenit St. Petersburg, where he played from 2022 to 2024.
In 2024, he played in China for the Shenzhen Leopards, and in 2025 he returned to Spain, playing for Coruna.
Midway through last season, he returned to ASVEL. Over the course of his career, he has averaged 9.6 points and 5.3 assists in 253 EuroLeague games.
For the French national team, Ertel has made 99 appearances and scored 748 points.
With the “Tricolors,” he won the gold medal at EuroBasket 2013, the bronze medal at the 2014 World Cup, the silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, as well as the silver medal at EuroBasket 2022.
