So far, AEK has struggled to balance its Champions League matches with those in the Greek league, having already recorded two draws in the first four matchdays of the Stoiximan Super League.
AEK will now travel to Volos to face the local team in the fifth round of the competition, with Alberto Brignoli speaking to Magenta’s camera ahead of the important match.
The Italian goalkeeper, among other things, spoke about the mental preparation the team needs to undertake, as well as the return of Thomas Strakosa, which he himself is eagerly awaiting.
Here’s what Alberto Brignoli had to say:
On the match against Volos:
“It will be a tough away game; it’s always difficult to play there. We need to prepare ourselves first and foremost mentally, then physically, and everything else. We need to prepare for the game down to every last detail. I’m sure it will be a tough match, but at the same time, I’m optimistic that we can get the result.”
On what AEK needs to do differently against Volos, compared to the games against Kifisia and Asteras Aktor, in order to secure the victory:
“For different reasons, those were two difficult matches. I think against Kifisia the problem was mainly mental, following our qualification for the Champions League. We lacked strength and energy. Against Asteras, we had chances to win, but we were unlucky on one or two occasions, especially in the latter part of the second half. But looking ahead to tomorrow, I believe our last two games taught us something. We need to identify what we were missing in those two games in order to get the result.”
On how he’s filling the void left by Thomas Strakosias’s absence:
“I feel good, thanks to the team. Because when you come in after a situation like that—and given my position—it’s difficult. But when you step in to play with a team like this—with this balance and everyone’s attitude—it’s much easier. I’m just trying to enjoy the opportunity to play a few games, and we’re all looking forward to Thomas’s return.”
