An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed to Reuters that Altman will address the 15-member Security Council in person at an open meeting on Wednesday.

The Security Council meeting was convened by France, which holds the council’s presidency for September.

A memorandum circulated to Council members by France highlights concerns regarding the potential misuse of artificial intelligence and calls for action to promote its safeand responsible development of AI.

“Given the risk of this technology being misused for malicious purposes and building on the Council’s existing commitment in this area, France wishes to underscore the urgent need for action to promote the safe and responsible development of artificial intelligence for the benefit of the international community as a whole,” the note stated, according to Reuters.

The meeting will take place amid growing debate over the rapid development of increasingly capable artificial intelligence systems and calls within the technology industry for strongerstronger safeguards and greater international coordination.
