An unimaginable tragedy unfolded early this morning at Vouliagmeni Beach, where an 82-year-old man died of a heart attack following an altercation with another beachgoer over a lounge chair.
According to reports, the incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. when the 82-year-old arrived at the beach with his wife and they sat down on sun loungers.
Shortly afterward, another couple arrived at the same spot—a 76-year-old man accompanied by a woman who had purchased a ticket for people with disabilities.
A dispute broke out over a lounge chair, resulting in the woman accompanying the 76-year-old feeling unwell and being taken to the beach clinic.

However, the 76-year-old returned, tempers flared, and he got into a physical altercation with the 82-year-old. During the scuffle, the 82-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and was also taken to the medical clinic, where paramedics administered first aid.
After failing to revive him—despite performing CPR four times and using a defibrillator—the elderly man was picked up by an EKAB ambulance and transported to the Asclepieion Hospitalin Voula, where he died an hour later.
The 76-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who was with him were arrested in connection with the incident and are being held at the Voula police station.
According to a friend of the 76-year-old, who was with him at Vouliagmeni Beach, the altercation began while he was buying a ticket and his friend went to get the lounge chairs. As he described it:
“My friend (the 76-year-old) went to get the lounge chairs while I was buying a ticket. He got into an argument with the 82-year-old, who told him, ‘Do you know who I am? I’m in the Navy.’ My friend (the 76-year-old) sustained injuries, as did the 21-year-old woman who was with him. My friend told me that he didn’t touch him at all. The guard threw him to the ground and beat him.”
Another beachgoer recounts: “We heard shouting, ran to see what was happening, and saw a scuffle; the employees were the first to rush over. It turned into chaos; I’ve never heard a woman scream like that before. I saw them hitting a man, another man, and a woman. And then we saw them performing CPR on him, and he was saying, ‘I’ve had three bypass surgeries.’”
