In the “fight” against the flu and RSV: When do vaccinations begin, and who gets priority?

A vaccination "shield" is being put in place for the winter

They are awaiting delivery of thousands of doses of the seasonal flu vaccine, and primary care physicians are beginning to administer vaccinations. Vaccinations are expected to begin in October, with priority given to those over 60.

“These are the most potent vaccines and are intended for people over 60; vaccination of others will then proceed, prioritizing vulnerable groups and then the rest, those eligible for the seasonal flu vaccine.”
Dr. Mary Avraamidou – President of the Association of Private Practitioners

Once the priority groups have been vaccinated and there is still a supply available, anyone can contact their personal physician to get vaccinated.

“The vaccine provides protection and reduces flu-related mortality—at least that’s what the statistics show every year. We’ve had some sporadic cases even now. I’ve had a case of the flu—a confirmed case involving people who traveled abroad, so we’re dealing with imported flu. It’s just that the period when the flu season begins and we see many cases is around the second ten-day period of December.”
Dr. Mary Avraamidou – President of the Association of Private Physicians

Regarding the RSV vaccination campaign, people over 75 and those aged 60 to 74 with chronic conditions are eligible for vaccination.

“For pregnant women, the program covers those who are due to give birth from September through March; after that, they are not covered by the National Health System (GESY). Those interested should contact their personal physician to get the RSV vaccine, which we do not have in our clinics, unlike the flu vaccine, which we order in large quantities to cover the population.”

According to the Ministry of Health’s plans, COVID-19 vaccines will be available to the public over the next two months: 112,722 doses for adults and another 11,550 for children.
