Neither Dembélé, nor Mbappé, nor Haaland, nor Kane… Cristian Romero said that Lionel Messi should be the winner of the Ballon d’Or.
“Of course he deserves it; there’s no one else like him—I say that all the time. Sure, when he decides to stop playing, then we’ll have to see who we’ll give it to,” the Atlético center back emphasized in an interview with ESPN.
“Messi has been my idol since I was very young; I saw him struggle with the national team, I saw him win it all at the club level, and, given everything we’ve achieved, the truth is that he’s the greatest of all time,” he said.
He also praised his character. “He’s a great person. He has ‘a humility that very few players possess.’ He was incredible to me from the very first day I joined the national team; he helped me a lot to adjust. When I joined the national team, we hadn’t yet achieved everything we went on to accomplish, and he always helped the younger players integrate as smoothly as possible,” he concluded.
