New revelations regarding the import of 390 kilograms of ketamine from Germany into the port of Limassol, were presented before the Limassol District Court, where the three suspects in the high-profile case were brought to have their detention order renewed for another eight days.
According to the investigating magistrate, the drugs were smuggled into Cyprus in three shipments: in July, August, and September, and the illegal operation was allegedly orchestrated by the couple of Israeli origin on behalf of a third party. In fact, the husband appears to be uncooperative with the authorities and is exercising his right to remain silent. A person of Palestinian origin took on the role of “guard” for the drugs in exchange for a fee of 5,000 euros; he was awaiting instructions from those involved to deliver the drugs, which appear to have been destined for Israel. His partner, who was also arrested in connection with the case, was released after no involvement on her part was found.
Investigations by the authorities revealed that the ketamine arrived at the port of Limassol in shipping containers and was concealed in paint buckets, while it appears that the intention of those involved was to transport the drugs from Cyprus to Israel on luxury yachts. However, no one has yet admitted what was to become of the drugs.
Printed and electronic evidence found in the suspects’ possession and on their cell phones indicates that they arranged for the shipment in three batches, while the police are investigating the possibility that they may have organized the import and receipt of drugs in the past as well.
