An appeal to the Minister of the Interior “to assume political responsibility and preserve the dignity of the office of mayor,” by suspending Ayia Napa Mayor Christos Zannetto from duty until the conclusion of the legal proceedings he is facing before the Permanent Criminal Court, AKEL states.
In a new statement it issued, AKEL Famagusta asks, “Why is the Mayor of Ayia Napa still in office while he is on trial in Criminal Court for fraud?” and “in what other case, in Cyprus or elsewhere in the world, is an elected official on trial before the Criminal Court for such serious offenses while simultaneously retaining his office?”
