AEK is now operating at a completely different pace, as the break for national team duty has significantly thinned out the roster in Spata. A total of 13 AEK players have already left to join their respective national teams, while Marko Nikolić took the opportunity to give the remaining players some time off.
The Serbian coach has granted them a five-day break, hoping that the players who remained in Athens will be able to rest both physically and mentally after a particularly demanding stretch. Training will resume after the break on Saturday, but for several days the schedule will proceed with a limited number of players due to international commitments.
In fact, the absences could be even greater, as Thomas Strakosa, Barnabas Varga, and Lazaros Rota did not join their national teams due to injuries. On the other hand, Lovro Mayer was ultimately included in Croatia’s roster, while among those who have left are also Luka Jović with Serbia, Kaan Kairinen with Finland, and Razvan Marin with Romania.
Kervin Ariaga with Honduras and Zini with Angola face more demanding trips ahead, while Aboubakar Koïta is expected to wrap up his duties with Mauritania sooner. AEK is now awaiting the smooth return of all its international players so that Nikolić will have as many options as possible when preparations begin for the resumption of official matches.
