Francesco Totti turned down offers from Como and Genoa to continue his career there at the age of 48.
He mentioned this in his autobiography, which has been published in Italy, noting that he could not play for any team other than his beloved Roma.
“I said no to Serie A. I said no to Genoa. I said no to Como. I was 48. The teams reached out to me; they made me hesitate. They worried me. In the end, the conclusion was always the same—a question I asked myself: Is it possible for me to play for a team other than Roma? “I was 48, but age doesn’t really matter,” he says, and continues:
“Sure, you get slower, but your foot doesn’t age, and everyone agrees: you don’t need Botox. Roma was the main criterion. It’s not a problem, and it never will be. There’s no age limit on sports treason, whether you’re 18 or 48,” he emphasized.
