At a press conference held today, September 23, at Pralina Experience in Nicosia, it was announced that the 22nd Europa Donna Cyprus Pink Figures Walk will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, October 3, in Nicosia. This year, the Walk—which begins at 5 p.m. from the Old GSP Stadium—is dedicated to the power of advocacy and unity and is held under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides.
On Saturday, October 3, we will join our voices and walk for everything that has changed and for everything that still needs to be done—for awareness, prevention, early diagnosis, and specialized care for breast cancer, by participating in the Pink Figures Walk, which is the largest event in Cyprus showing solidarity with patients.
For this year’s event, the arrival time has been set for 5:00 p.m. The opening ceremony will take place at 5:15 p.m., featuring brief speeches at the renovated Old GSP grounds. We will then march along Evagoras Street, turning right toward Themistoklis Dervis Street, ending at the headquarters of Alpha Bank Cyprus (corner of Spyrou Kyprianou and Themistoklis Derbis Streets), which is the March’s Strategic Partner. A symbolic placement of the figures will take place at the Alpha Bank Cyprus building. The Walk is expected to conclude around 7:00 p.m.
There, 840 figures will be placed, symbolizing the new cases of breast cancer in women recorded in Cyprus in 2025, 6 blue figures representing new cases of breast cancer in men, and 220 turquoise figures representing new cases of gynecological cancer. There will also be 299 white figures representing the people we have sadly lost in 2025.
During the press conference, Olga Papadimou, Chair of the Board of Directors of Europa Donna Cyprus, emphasized that we are calling for:
Accurate information for everyone. In an age of information overload and misinformation, reliable, scientifically grounded knowledge can have a decisive impact on the decisions we make regarding our health. That is why accurate information is an urgent necessity for us.
Early diagnosis for everyone. Early diagnosis is of critical importance. The earlier a disease is detected, the more treatment options may be available and the better the prognosis for the patient.
Specialized and high-quality care for everyone. Specialized care is not a privilege. It is a patient’s right. Every patient must be able to access the right specialist, the right multidisciplinary team, at the right time. In specialized centers that operate according to clear and measurable quality standards, based on clear guidelines.
Ms. Stella Kyriakidou emphasized the importance of specialization in patient care, highlighting the need for specialized centers, interdisciplinary teams, and comprehensive care for every woman. At the same time, she highlighted the role of Europa Donna Cyprus as a voice for women who do not always have the strength or the ability to advocate for their own care and rights.
In his remarks, the Executive Director of Europa Donna Cyprus, Mr. Andreas Pisias, emphasized that for nearly 25 years, Europa Donna Cyprus has been working consistently to ensure that no patient feels alone in the face of cancer. He also noted that Europa Donna Cyprus offers psychological, social, and practical support services to many women who need help during a particularly difficult period in their lives. She added that Europa Donna advocates for better prevention, early diagnosis, quality care, and meaningful support for patients and their families, noting that today’s conference provides an opportunity to highlight the important demands for a better and higher-quality healthcare system.
The CEO of Alpha Bank Cyprus, Mr. Miltos Michaelas, stated in his opening remarks: “Behind every Pink Figure is a real woman, with her own life, her own story, and the people who stand by her. This year’s message, ‘Knowledge that supports. Care That Embraces,” captures the essence of Europa Donna’s work and highlights the importance of awareness, prevention, early diagnosis, and compassionate care. For Alpha Bank Cyprus, supporting this effort is a conscious and ongoing choice. This year marks our second year standing alongside Europa Donna as a Strategic Partner of the Walk, with the desire to make a meaningful contribution to its cause and to mobilize our own employees. On October 3, we will walk together again, because awareness, prevention, and care are matters for society as a whole.”
PIS President Dr. Petros Agathangelou emphasized the importance of prevention, early diagnosis, and equal access to quality care for the effective treatment of breast cancer. Despite significant advances in medical science, the need for continued strengthening of prevention efforts, faster diagnosis, and comprehensive support for patients at all stages of treatment was highlighted. At the same time, she welcomed the establishment of the National Cancer Institute and the long-standing work of Europa Donna Cyprus in raising awareness, providing support, and advocating for patients’ rights.
So, on Saturday, October 3, at 5 p.m., let’s walk to move forward and demand even more—for awareness, prevention, early diagnosis, and specialized care. Because life matters.
Knowledge that supports. Care that embraces.
See you at 5 p.m. at the Old GSP in Nicosia.
