The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, is speaking at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the last one under the leadership of António Guterres.
In the “shadow” of the intense behind-the-scenes diplomatic activity taking place on the sidelines of the Assembly—aimed at achieving progress in efforts to resume talks on a solution to the Cyprus problem— the President of the Republic is expected to address, among other things:
- The Cyprus issue, the positions of the Republic of Cyprus, and yesterday’s remarks by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan
- The importance of international law, the UN Charter, and multilateralism, particularly for smaller states
- The added value and important role of Cyprus in the region as a pillar of stability, cooperation, and humanitarian contribution
- The contemporary global challenges, including climate change
- The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU
- The contributions and leadership of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres
