Russia “will not call a truce” in the war with Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated today, one day after the “moratorium” on strikes against energy infrastructure, which the presidents of the U.S. and Ukraine mentioned on Tuesday.
“We will not pause our special military operation” (as Moscow calls the war), Lavrov said while addressing the United Nations Security Council. “Europe wants a pause so it can use that time to supply Ukraine with weapons,” he argued.
Yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he is “ready” to declare a moratorium on strikes against energy targets, provided that Russia does the same. U.S. President Donald Trump, in his speech to the UN General Assembly, assured that an agreement between Ukraine and Russia would be reached “sooner than some people think.”
