Second derby, but… with a lot at stake for Panathinaikos and PAOK! Just a few days after their incredibly spectacular and thrilling match at the 8th “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament, which ended in victory for Zeljko Obradovic’s team, the two teams face off once again, this time for the Stoiximan Super Cup, in the second quarterfinal (9:00 p.m.).
On the one hand, the “Greens” got off to the best possible start to the season; after winning the tournament held in memory of their legendary leader, they hit the ground running in the EuroLeague as well, defeating Paris 91-72 at the Telekom Center Athens. The “clover” is once again dealing with several absences, with Fall, Sloukas, Hayes-Davis, and Nan all sidelined. In fact, Nan has been listed on the foreign players’ roster in order to serve the suspension he carries over from last season and the Stoiximan GBL finals against Olympiacos.

On the other side, PAOK wants to show the same form again against the mighty Panathinaikos, but this time with a different outcome. Andreas Trinchieri’s team put on an outstanding performance against Obradović’s squad and is traveling to Athens to claim the trophy.
Amid all this, the mood within the team is somber, partly due to the death of Souli Markopoulos, who had been deeply connected to the Thessaloniki team. The “black-and-whites” traveled to Athens without Bri Tyree, while Bazinas and Gray are questionable.
