The Serbian newspaper “Novosti” speaks highly of Marko Nikolić in a feature on the country’s coaches who are currently working outside Serbia.
In light of the problems facing the country’s national team and its defeat at the hands of the Greek national team, the Serbian media outlet is looking for coaches who possess the necessary prestige and experience to lead the national team back to success.
And at the top of his list, he places Marko Nikolić, clearly describing him as “our top coach right now.”
Here is what he said in detail:
“Due to the national team’s poor results, as well as the tarnished reputation of Serbian soccer and the weak domestic league, the same view constantly prevails: that we lack quality and that the players are the main problem. But what about the coaches and their standing? Where are some of our most accomplished coaches today, and how many of them actually hold positions at major clubs?
Undoubtedly, our top coach right now is Marko Nikolić, who won the league title with AEK last summer, and subsequently led his team to the Champions League group stage, securing its first-ever victory there. The experienced Ivan Jovanović is the coach of the Greek national team, having led them to a 2-1 victory over Serbia in the Nations League just last night, while Kosta Runiac, of Serbian descent but born in Vienna, is currently coaching the Italian club Udinese.”
