Spain Stuns Wembley with a Comeback Within a Comeback – Modrić Paves the Way for Croatia’s Victory Over the Czech Republic

Spain proved right from the start of the Nations League that its status as world champion is no fluke, coming back from a 1-2 deficit to defeat England 3-2 in the opener of Group 3 in League A, while Switzerland also put on a great performance, securing a convincing 3-0 victory over North Macedonia.

La “Furia Roja” got off to a perfect start at Wembley, with Lamine Yamal opening the scoring just two minutes in, but the hosts fought back before halftime. Anthony Gordon equalized in the 36th minute, and four minutes later, Harry Kane completed the comeback to make it 2-1.

England had a chance to extend their lead in the 53rd minute when Kane took a penalty kick, but he was unable to beat Unai Simón. Spain didn’t let the opportunity slip away. Alex Baena equalized in the 60th minute, and in the 74th minute, Mikel Oyarzabal completed the comeback, making it 2-3 at Wembley.

In the same group, Croatia also secured a big win, defeating the Czech Republic 2-1, with Lovro Mayer remaining on the bench for the entire match. The brilliant Luka Modrić opened the scoring in the 47th minute, the Czech Republic responded in the 54th minute with a goal by Adam Karabec, but Croatia scored the winning goal in the 77th minute, courtesy of Marko Pasalić.

The North Macedonia-Switzerland match was of particular interest to Greek fans, with the Swiss prevailing comfortably 3-0. Remo Freuler opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, with the Olympiacos midfielder continuing his excellent start to the season in the best possible way. Amduni then took it upon himself to “seal the deal,” scoring Switzerland’s other two goals.

Albania prevailed, winning comfortably 2-0 over Belarus. Aslani and Muci scored for the Albanians.

In the other matches, Finland routed San Marino 7-0, with Poyanpalo scoring a hat trick, while Slovakia defeated Moldova 2-0.

The Faroe Islands-Kazakhstan and Iceland-Estonia matches ended in 1-1 draws, while the Bulgaria-Luxembourg match ended with a 2-1 victory for the visitors. Finally, the Slovenia-Scotland match ended scoreless.
