There was a strong police presence and activity last night throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintaining public order, and increasing the public’s sense of security.
As a result of these preventive police operations, five individuals were arrested for various offenses, including, public insult and refusal to provide information, driving under the influence of drugs and with a suspended driver’s license, causing a disturbance, drunkenness, malicious damage, assault, and drug possession.
As part of these operations, 885 drivers and 397 passengers were stopped and checked overnight. At the same time, 62 property inspections were conducted to combat illegal activities, resulting in 10 complaints.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 309 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 10 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation.
Of the citations issued, 99 were for speeding, and eight vehicles were impounded as part of police investigations.
A total of 391 breathalyzer tests were conducted, resulting in 22 citations, while preliminary drug tests yielded one positive result.
Law enforcement operations aimed at crime prevention and suppression continue daily, with an increased/reinforced police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing citizens’ sense of security, protecting citizens, and ensuring public order.
