New threat from Iran against ships in the Strait of Hormuz: “Consequences for those who violate the shipping lanes”

Tehran Warns Commercial Ships and Shipping Companies
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The agency established by Iran to manage the Strait of Hormuz has warned commercial vessels that they will face consequences if they sail on “illegal” routes.

This decision “poses a risk of financial losses and loss of life for the vessel, the owner, the captain, and the crew,” and, furthermore, entails “restrictions on its future transits through the Strait of Hormuz,” the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) stated in the early morning hours via X.

It urged shipping companies to prevent such “violations,” warning that those involved will face consequences in the future.

Diplomatic efforts are underway to reopen the strait, which has remained de facto closed since the outbreak of war in the Middle East following the U.S.-Israeli attack against the Islamic Republic on February 28.

Tehran submitted a plan this week via the Emirate of Qatar to Washington to reopen the strategic sea lane “in seven days,” according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. But U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he rejects the proposal, telling reporters at the White House that he finds it unacceptable.

One-fifth of the hydrocarbons consumed globally passed through the strait unhindered and free of charge before the war broke out.
