At least 17 people were killed in a shooting at a bar in South Africa’s Gauteng Province late Saturday night, the country’s police announced.
Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate eight gunmen who allegedly stormed the bar in the town of Wendela, located southwest of Johannesburg, and opened fire on the patrons.
According to police, the perpetrators were armed with AK-47-type rifles and handguns and began firing indiscriminately inside the bar.
All of the victims, including three women, were found inside the bar. Emergency medical services pronounced them dead at the scene. Another 15 people were injured by the gunfire and taken to the hospital.
The motive for the attack remains unknown at this time.
