DISY Deputy Chairman Efthymios Diplaros calls on Averof Neophytou to clarify whether he is seeking the DISY nomination for the 2028 presidential election through the party’s process or announcing a candidacy independent of it, DISY Deputy President Efthymios Diplaros calls on Averof Neophytou to do so.
In a statement to Alphanews.Live, Efthymios Diplaros emphasizes that DISY is a party with institutions, procedures, and rules, while anyone interested in running for President of the Republic “certainly has the right to do so”
“It goes without saying, however, that candidacies for the Democratic Rally’s nomination are evaluated through the party’s established procedures. Averof Neophytou served as President of DISY and knows better than anyone the importance of these procedures and collective decision-making. “That is why I believe a clear answer is needed: Is he seeking the DISY nomination through the party’s process, or is he announcing a candidacy independent of it?” added Mr. Diplaros.
At the same time, he is sending a clear message that this is not a matter of individuals, but a matter of respect for the party’s grassroots and the unity of the faction.

“We are not going to preempt any process or exclude anyone. We will abide by our rules and let the members and collective bodies of DISY decide.”
At the same time, he notes that “what must not happen is for a fait accompli to be created that would call into question a process that must be transparent, equitable, and respected by all.”
He adds that “it is not my job, as Deputy Chairman, to decide who the candidate will be. My responsibility is to ensure that whoever wishes to run for the nomination does so under the same rules and through the same process.”
When asked whether Averof Neophytou should commit to supporting the winner of the process, Mr. Diplaros replied that “this is a very important issue. Anyone who enters an internal party process must know the rules of the game in advance and respect the outcome.
‘DISY’s unity cannot be à la carte,’ he concludes.”
