In a statement, the president of the Alma Movement, Odysseas Michaelides, in order to brief political leaders on the developments in New York.
“After Nikos Christodoulides spent the past few days engaging in public relations stunts designed to foster unfounded expectations, he returned from New York empty-handed, to widespread disappointment and concern,” says Mr. Michaelides, adding that President Christodoulides inherited the Cyprus issue “at a standstill” and, three and a half years later, “the Cyprus issue is buried deep in a pit”.
As he points out, after four months of continuous public statements and expectations of significant developments—even of a possible solution plan by the end of the year— “citizens realize that either false hopes were deliberately fostered for public relations purposes, or there is an inability to conduct a credible political analysis of the facts.”
“We expect the National Council to be convened immediately to provide a full briefing on the data revealed by the new shipwreck,” he concludes.
