Total female dominance: Madonna and Taylor Swift made history

The 2026 MTV VMAs had a strong female presence, with two of music’s biggest stars taking center stage that night: Madonna and Taylor Swift.

If there’s one thing that defined this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, it was the dynamic presence of women in music, and at the center of a night full of memorable moments were two names that have left an indelible mark on the event: Madonna and Taylor Swift.

The two superstars enjoyed a truly special evening, winning major awards and adding yet another chapter to their already impressive history at the VMAs. Madonna, in fact, entered this year’s event as the artist with the most nominations, and her return to the VMA stage—for the first time in 23 years—was in itself one of the biggest highlights of the night.
