On the passing of Dimitris Palalas: “It is a tremendous loss for the AEL family and for Cypriot basketball in general. His presence is deeply felt everywhere. He is the only one who went through every stage of the team—as a player, coach, and administrator. For us, it is a loss that we are slowly coming to terms with. I remember Dimitris from ’73, during AEL’s first championship win, and Palalas was there wearing number 9. He was there until the very end. He watched every game right beside me.”
Regarding AEL’s announcement and whether there will be events in his honor: “There isn’t the slightest hint of exaggeration in the announcement. That’s just how it was. Even while he was in the hospital, he was always there, checking in with messages and in every way possible, even if he couldn’t make it to the game. Of course, we’ll do whatever we need to do as AEL, a club that knows how to honor its players. The funeral is tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.”
