Russian strikes caused damage to port infrastructure and other facilities in the Ukrainian region of Odessa on the Black Sea, the governor of that Ukrainian region said today.
A business also sustained serious damage during the attack, which left six people injured, Governor Oleks Kipper reported via Telegram.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced in Moscow that overnight, Russian forces struck two data centers in Kyiv, a cargo ship linked to the armed forces in the Black Sea, and another ship carrying a military cargo in Odessa.
It was reported earlier that a series of powerful explosions were heard in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Kyiv, and Ukrainian air defenses were activated during an alertover a new Russian airstrike.
“More ballistic missiles are heading toward Kyiv,” the Ukrainian Air Force warned via Telegram.
Journalists in Kyiv reported a combined attack involving missiles and attack drones.
For weeks now, the Ukrainian capital has been facing an escalation of Russian strikes, usually at night but also during the day in some cases.
On Monday, a woman was killed and six other people were injured when a Russian drone set the Academy of Sciences in Kyiv on fire, according to a preliminary report announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In total, nine people were killed and about 80 others were injured across the country, according to information released by the head of state.
Last week, Zelenskyy once again asked his country’s Western allies for more interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense systems, the only ones in the Ukrainian arsenal capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.
