Olympiacos: Fuster’s return to Piraeus is in the final stages

Close to a deal
ALPHANEWSLIVE

David Fuster is getting closer and closer to returning to Olympiacos, with the veteran star of the “red-and-whites” spending many hours at Renti and talks regarding the new partnership between the two sides having made significant progress.

The Spaniard arrived at Olympiacos’ training center at noon and remained there until around 8:00 p.m., where he had the opportunity to speak both with people he knows from his previous stint at the club and with members of the Spanish coaching staff who are now with the team.

He had a particularly meaningful exchange with Antonio Cordon, whom he knows well from their time together at Villarreal, while Fuster also spoke with Imanol, as well as with the other Spaniards who make up the soccer department. The role he will assume has not yet been officially finalized.

The prevailing view is that the former Olympiacos captain is slated for a position directly linked to the first team. One possibility is that he will join Imanol’s staff, while the prospect of him working with Cordon has also been discussed. At the same time, there have been discussions about his potential involvement with the Academy, with official announcements expected to clarify the exact details.

Fuster has expressed his desire to pursue a career in coaching, and since retiring as a player, he has gained experience in various roles at Valencia and Villarreal. His return to Piraeus, nearly a decade after leaving as a player, brings him back to a club with which he formed a strong bond during his playing career.

Meanwhile, Olympiacos returned to training after a three-day break, with Imanol using the second week of the break to focus particularly on creativity and attacking play. Productivity is one of the key areas the Basque coach wants to improve, while also awaiting the return of the international players so the team can get back into its regular rhythm.

Another positive development is the match fitness of players who need playing time. Popovic saw action with his national team, while Roman Yaremchuk played one half for Ukraine after the knee discomfort that had kept him out of the previous match.
