The NBA appears to be picking up the pace on the creation of the new European league, with talks with some of Europe’s biggest soccer clubs already at an advanced stage.
According to a report by “The Athletic,” Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Milan are among the clubs involved in discussions with the NBA. In fact, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan do not currently have basketball teams, which makes their involvement in this plan even more intriguing.
According to the same sources, negotiations are moving forward, with NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, and Senior Vice President George Ivasoglou having held private meetings in Copenhagen with club executives interested in the venture.
The plan for NBA Europe calls for the creation of a league with 12 permanent members and four additional spots, with cities such as London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Berlin, Munich, Istanbul, Madrid, Athens, Barcelona, Manchester, and Lyon.
Meanwhile, according to the report, EuroLeague shareholders are expected to discuss the NBA’s proposals next week, which concern a potential acquisition and merger with the new league, a development that, if it goes ahead, could significantly reshape the landscape of European basketball.
