Vangelis Pavlidis spoke about the Greek national team’s positive morale following its two victories, as well as the need for the team to remain focused ahead of the match against the Netherlands.
The international forward also mentioned Max Meerding, as well as the new role he took on in the last match under Ivan Jovanović.
Here is what he said in detail:
On how the team is managing its emotions after the two wins: “It’s a great joy to have played two matches in front of a packed stadium. There’s a sense of calm within the team. We’ve realized that when we get too excited, it doesn’t work out well for us. We’ve… messed up in the past. We’ve learned from our mistakes in previous qualifiers, and I believe everything will go well tomorrow.”
On Merding: “I’ve known Max for the past two years at AZ. I’m amazed by his development as a forward, and I hope he continues like this. When he was with us, he was 18 years old; he won the Youth League and showed his qualities. Now he’s a starter and plays for the national team.”
On the role Ivan Jovanović has given him as a “number 10”: “It’s an exaggeration to say that I play like… Kane. I enjoyed it; I did things that fit my style of play, I tried to give it my all, and it turned out well.”
