The check-out from an apartment they never actually stayed in appears to have given the two Israelis, aged 23 and 24, away; they arrived in Cyprus ten days ago and were caught with 27 kilograms of ketamine.
The two young men had rented two apartments through Airbnb, where quantities of drugs were found.
As stated in court when the suspects appeared yesterday morning, the owner had entered the apartment because the young men were supposed to have left and had not notified her.
The two suspects were absent, while the landlady discovered items she did not recognize as her own. Upon inspection, they found the drugs and, together with her husband, notified the police.
Specifically, the search of the apartment turned up:
– 27 kilograms and 507 grams of
ketamine– 377 grams of
cannabis– 776 grams of
mephedrone– 269 grams of MDMA
– 172 grams of cocaine
The two Israelis arrived by car, and as they were climbing the interior staircase, they were intercepted by members of the Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN). In fact, they attacked two members of the agency, punching one in the face and shoving the other. They were eventually handcuffed.
A subsequent search of two rental cars and another apartment revealed additional quantities of drugs as well as a sum of ten thousand euros.
The two suspects were taken into custody for a period of eight days. Investigators are looking into the possibility that this case is linked to the discovery of 390 kilograms of ketamine two weeks ago, also in Limassol, for which two other Israelis and one Palestinian are charged.
