The Indian pilot who was stabbed by the co-pilot on a flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv is in “stable condition” in the city of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where the aircraft made an emergency landing, according to the Indian Embassy in the Saudi capital.
“Our embassy in Riyadh and our consulate in Jeddah are monitoring the health condition of Mr. Schmidt Matsar, the brave Indian flydubai pilot whose flight veered off course in Tabuk today,” the embassy said in a post on X.
“He was taken to a hospital in the city of Tabuk in the northwestern part of Saudi Arabia and is receiving the necessary medical care,” according to the same source.

Emphasizing that the information it had regarding Matsar was that he was in “stable condition,” the Indian Embassy in Riyadh expressed hope that he would recover as soon as possible. “We are in contact with his family and assure them that we will continue to monitor his health in coordination with the Saudi Arabian authorities,” providing all possible support, it states.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the courage of the flydubai pilot who was stabbed by the co-pilot, who allegedly attempted to cause thecrash of the aircraft. “I commend the Indian pilot, Schmidt Machar, for his unparalleled courage. Although he was stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and allowed passengers and crew to subdue the attacker—thus preventing an aviation tragedy,” Netanyahu wrote in a post on X.

“He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens,” Netanyahu said, wishing Matsar a speedy recovery and emphasizing that “he is a true hero.”
