The Portuguese captain has already left the hotel where the team is staying in Copenhagen, and the Portuguese media is reporting that his decision is final.
This development came after Ronaldo withdrew from the national team’s training camp one day before the match, following a conversation he had with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proença.
The 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward himself confirmed his withdrawal from the squad via a post on his official social media accounts.
“Following the national team coach’s press conference and after a discussion with the president of the FPF, I decided to withdraw from the national team’s training camp,” Ronaldo said.
The Portuguese superstar even left open the possibility of explaining at a later date the reasons that led him to this decision.
“When the time is right, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led me to leave the national team, to which I have always been completely dedicated,” he said.
At the same time, Ronaldo wished Portugal and his teammates the best of luck, without exception.
“Now is the time to wish Portugal and all my teammates the best of luck, without exception,” was his message.
If the decision is finalized, the match against Wales in Alvalade will be Ronaldo’s last game with the Portuguese national team, which he has represented for more than two decades and for which he holds the records for most appearances and goals in the team’s history.
