The United States looks forward to building on last year’s achievements and deepening its partnership with Cyprus in the coming years, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a a written statement marking the anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus’s independence.
In the statement, Mr. Rubio extends warm congratulations on behalf of the United States to the Cypriot people on the anniversary of their independence and notes that the U.S.-Cyprus partnership continues to grow stronger every year. He adds that bilateral defense and energy cooperation has advanced regional security.

“We are proud of the progress we have made together in trade and economic ties that benefit both nations. This year, we deepened our educational ties through a Memorandum of Understanding to expand the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program, reflecting our close cooperation and our shared interest in promoting the English language and educational exchanges as a gateway to expanding business opportunities,” he notes.

The State Department states that the U.S. remains steadfast in its support for a Cyprus-led settlement (of the Cyprus issue) mediated by the UN, which would reunify the island as a bizonal, bicommunal federation, in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
“As Cyprus marks this milestone, the United States looks forward to building on the achievements of the past year and deepening our partnership in the years to come,” the statement reads.
