Through announcements, proclamations, and references to the Cyprus issue, the political parties are sending their own messages on the 66th anniversary of Cyprus’s independence.

DISY Declaration for October 1: It is our duty to remain true to our principles

October 1 is a day of honor for the Republic of Cyprus and for all those who fought to defend freedom and independence, the Republic, and our homeland during the difficult moments of our history.

The Democratic Rally continues to consistently fight for the liberation and reunification of our homeland and for a just and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem.

Our steadfast goal is a solution based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, in accordance with United Nations decisions and resolutions and the principles and rules of the European Union, which will end the occupation and safeguard the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all lawful citizens of the Republic of Cyprus.

At the same time, we continue to work toward a modern, European, and reliable Cyprus, with strong institutions, reforms, and an active role in the Eastern Mediterranean, with a steadfast focus on cooperation, peace, and stability.

It is our duty to remain true to our principles and to press forward with determination until the path is cleared for a solution and the restoration of our homeland’s unity.

For a free, reunified, secure, and European Cyprus, where Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Maronites, Armenians, and Latins will live in peace, with equal rights and freedoms, free from discrimination and exclusion.

AKEL Declaration on the Anniversary of Cypriot Independence: The anniversary of Independence is not only a time for tributes, but also for reflections

AKEL honors the anniversary of Cypriot Independence and pays tribute to all those who fought and made sacrifices for the freedom, democracy, and survival of our homeland. To those who fought against British colonialism, to the heroic martyrs of Greek-Turkish friendship who defended it against the poison of nationalism, to the defenders of democracy against plans for partition, the coup d’état, and the fascism of EOKA B and the Athens junta. We honor those who resisted the Turkish invasion and gave their lives defending the freedom and territorial integrity of Cyprus in an unequal and betrayed struggle.

The independence of 1960 was a historic achievement for the Cypriot people. Despite the restrictions and obligations of the Zurich-London Agreements—the result of an intra-NATO compromise— the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus put an end to colonial rule and created the independent state of the Cypriot people. The very existence and international standing of the Republic of Cyprus remain, to this day, a shield against Turkish occupation, partition, and any plan that challenges our people’s right to live freely in their homeland.

The Republic of Cyprus belongs to its people, both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. Therefore, in the face of both Turkish aspirations that challenge its existence and legitimacy and nationalist views that seek to impose a monocommunal character upon it, the response must remain the steadfast defense of the Republic of Cyprus as a bicommunal, independent state.

Independence Day is not just a time for tributes. It is also a time for conclusions. The modern history of Cyprus has demonstrated in the most painful way where nationalism, chauvinism, and the subjugation of the country to foreign agendas. The undermining of the Republic of Cyprus, the crimes committed against Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, the coup d’état, and the Turkish invasion cannot be treated as isolated chapters in our history. The lessons they teach must guide our choices today as well.

Sixty-six years after independence, Cyprus remains de facto divided, and the Turkish occupation continues. Turkish demands for a two-state solution and attempts to create new, divisive facts on the ground make the prospect of reunification even more difficult. These difficulties, however, cannot be used as an excuse for resignation, inaction, or acceptance of partition.

AKEL remains committed to the struggle to end the Turkish occupation and reunite our homeland and our people. For a bicommunal, bizonal federation with political equality, as defined in the relevant UN resolutions. For a Cyprus free of occupying forces and anachronistic guarantees—a shared homeland for Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, Maronites, Armenians, and Latins.

This is the essential message of this anniversary: to defend the Republic of Cyprus not as a state trapped in the current division, but as the starting point and the foundation upon which the reunified Cyprus of tomorrow can be built. With perseverance, consistency, and determination. Until the reunification of our homeland.

ELAM Declaration on the Anniversary of Cypriot Independence: We Have a Duty to Defend and Strengthen the Republic of Cyprus

Today marks sixty-six years since the official proclamation of the Republic of Cyprus, as a result of the sacred national liberation struggle of EOKA from 1955 to 1959.

Unfortunately, since the brutal Turkish invasion of 1974, 37% of Cyprus’s territory remains under Turkish occupation.

The Constitution, which was enacted under the influence of external factors, as well as the flaws in its relevant provisions, have caused operational weaknesses that have contributed to the current tragic circumstances.

We have a duty to defend and strengthen the Republic of Cyprus, which is the last bastion of Hellenism on the island. Everyone must realize this—especially those who intend to dismantle it through a federal solution.

We remain committed to the struggle until the blessed hour of liberation.

DIKO Declaration on the Anniversary of Cypriot Independence: This year’s anniversary finds the Cyprus issue at a critical juncture

Sixty-six years after its establishment, the Republic of Cyprus remains our people’s greatest achievement and the foundation upon which we can build the future of a free, reunified Cyprus.

Our statehood and sovereignty are our shield of protection; they are our voice on the international stage and our responsibility to pass on to future generations a homeland free of occupying forces.

This year’s anniversary finds the Cyprus issue at a critical juncture.

Recent talks in New York confirm that the United Nations is continuing its efforts, but also that the resumption of substantive negotiations remains an outstanding issue.

The Democratic Party supports the initiatives of the President of the Republic to move this effort forward.

Our own readiness must be matched by genuine political will on the Turkish side as well. Confidence-building measures can help; however, they are no substitute for a solution.

For DIKO, the direction is clear: an end to the occupation and partition, with the continuation and transformation of the Republic of Cyprus into a functional, viable, modern European state.

The solution must be based on United Nations resolutions, international law, and the principles and values of the European Union; it must safeguard the rights of all lawful residents of Cyprus, ensure the withdrawal of occupying forces, and abolish anachronistic guarantees and rights of intervention.

The pursuit of reunification is incompatible with the recognition of two states or with the legitimization of the consequences of the invasion.

The Republic of Cyprus has demonstrated once again this year, through its presidency of the Council of the European Union, that it can actively contribute to shaping European decisions.

In a region plagued by conflicts, its international cooperation and humanitarian initiatives reinforce its role as a reliable partner.

We must consistently leverage this international presence to promote a just solution to the Cyprus problem.

The Democratic Party honors all those who fought and made sacrifices for the Republic, continuing the struggle for a Cyprus that is free and enjoys security, peace, democracy, and dignity.

DIPA on the 66th Anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus: It Is Our Duty to Reunify Our Homeland

Sixty-six years after the proclamation of the Republic of Cyprus, we honor today the independence of our homeland and all those who fought and made sacrifices for freedom and the creation of the Cypriot state.

Today’s anniversary is not merely a day of remembrance. It is also a day of responsibility toward our homeland and future generations.

Our greatest national duty remains the end of the occupation and the reunification of Cyprus. The DIPA remains steadfastly committed to a just, sustainable, and workable solution to the Cyprus problem, based on the UN Security Council resolutions, the agreed framework for a solution, and the negotiating achievements up to Crans-Montana.

The Republic of Cyprus is our shared homeland, and its reunification cannot remain an empty declaration. It requires political will, consistency, active diplomacy, and the full utilization of all our international and European leverage.

Our duty to those who fought for Cyprus’s independence is to pass on to future generations not a divided homeland that will grow accustomed to division, but a free, safe, and reunified Republic of Cyprus.
