"The Republic of Cyprus is the shield that protects our homeland and our people," said AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanou, in remarks made after the military parade in Nicosia marking the anniversary of the country’s independence.

He paid tribute to all those who defended the freedom, democracy, independence, and territorial integrity of Cyprus. “Let us hope that we will be able to enjoy lasting peace, security, and prosperity in our homeland,” said Mr. Stefanou, and he wished “Many happy returns to our people, many happy returns to our Cyprus. “We will continue the struggle,” he said.
