The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, received a congratulatory message today from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres, on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Cyprus.
In his message, the UN Secretary-General stated the following:
“National Days are important moments to reflect on a country’s journey, its contribution to the international community, and the aspirations that guide its future.
They also remind us of the value of dialogue and solidarity in addressing international challenges.
The world today faces urgent challenges: ending wars and preventing new ones, addressing the climate crisis, reducing inequalities, and managing powerful technologies responsibly.
Addressing these and other challenges requires renewed engagement and commitment to multilateral cooperation to ensure peace and security, advance the Sustainable Development Goals, and uphold human rights.
Once again, I extend my best wishes to the people of the Republic of Cyprus on this special day.”
